Early Pregnancy Symptoms Week by Week

Early in pregnancy, a new mother-to-be will be given the first sign that she is pregnant, some symptoms may start to appear. These symptoms may be different for every woman, but there is a standard guide of pregnancy symptoms week by week that can be used as a reference for women who is hoping to be pregnant.

The halt of menstrual periods is one of the first signs of being pregnant, but earlier symptoms may be present, for example fatigue and tenderness of the breasts which is a result of the hormones spreading through the body.

Usually, morning sickness will appear in the first six weeks, and can affect women at any time of the day. Pregnant diets filled with bland foods may help reducing the nausea. Some women continue to feel this symptom all over the pregnancy.

If you are following your pregnancy week by week, you will notice that some symptoms seem to come and go, while some are there for a while and then gone entirely. Your pregnancy progress will result in some changes to the symptoms over time.

Several women become very worried if they do not have all of the symptoms. Lacking of symptoms is not usually a cause for concern because each woman will experience pregnancy in different way. Some women simply know that they are pregnant because they just “feel” pregnant, but to make sure that you are pregnant, you can always go see your doctor to confirm it, and make sure everything is ok.

What makes one person more susceptible to the causes of allergies than someone else?

Essentially what’s going on is a genetic thing, so, some people will be more genetically inclined to be hypersensitive to something that many other people won’t be i.e. you may have a peanut allergy and a sibling may like nothing better than having a nice bag of dry roasted peanuts as a treat after a hard day’s work.

What happens is that the lymphocytes cause a misidentification of the harmless proteins in the sufferer’s body, and it then treats those proteins as being harmful, and this sets off the immune system. The white blood cell then transforms itself into a mast cell which produces a chemical known as an immunoglobulin. The immunoglobulin is programmed specifically to target the troublesome antigen (the foreign protein).

Because the immune system has been activated as it would if you were suffering from, for example, a harmful virus, you will see your body starting to show many of the same effects as it starts to fight the ‘harmful’ peanut protein.

Write a list of the reasons why you want to stop, and keep them with you. Refer to them when tempted to light up. You may wish to read a separate leaflet in this series called ‘Smoking – The Facts‘. This gives the reasons why smoking is so harmful and lists the benefits of stopping.

Set a date for stopping, and stop completely. (Some people prefer the idea of cutting down gradually. Therefore, it is usually best to stop once and for all from a set date.)

Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking. Friends and family often give support and may help you. Smoking by others in the household makes giving up harder. If appropriate, try to get other household members who smoke, or friends who smoke, to stop smoking at the same time. A ‘team’ effort may be easier than going it alone.

Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, and all cigarettes.

Be prepared for some withdrawal symptoms. When you stop smoking, you are likely to get symptoms which may include: nausea (feeling sick), headaches, anxiety, irritability, craving, and just feeling awful. These symptoms are caused by the lack of nicotine that your body has been used to. They tend to peak after 12-24 hours, and then gradually ease over 2-4 weeks.
