I would like for you to join me in challenging a false belief that I am sure that like me, you’re all grown up hearing was true. The information in the traditional food pyramid, USDA – the model widely used in recent decades – is archaic and not wise. Anchored by carbohydrates (with a recommendation of 6-11 servings), the pyramid also recommends two to three servings of meat and dairy products – in essence, is a diagram of how to clog the system. The latest revised version, which contains several improvements, does not address the guilt of animal-based diet.

70% live foods – is a combination of 80% vegetables (asparagus, broccoli, carrots, spinach, green peppers, celery, cucumbers, lettuce, sprouts, wheatgrass, and herbs) and 20% fruit (ideally non-acid production to low-sugar fruits such as avocados, lemons, limes, tomatoes, and grapefruit). Vegetables are a great source of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants and fiber. If the body is tight, the fruit is a great live food – in moderation, to be eaten on an empty stomach.

Give your parents a break, they are just doing their job. They want you to eat properly so you’ll develop, be healthy, and keep your moods balanced.

Your body needs certain nutrients to feel well as you go through each day. The most important meal is breakfast, even though it’s probably the most difficult for many teenagers. Breakfast is even more important if you aren’t eating lunch on a regular basis, and are waiting until after school or until dinner to eat.
