If you are suffering from anemia and are already eating meat, the increase in meat that is consumed quickly increase the iron that your body receives from it.
It is also a good idea to eat foods high in folic acid such as orange juice, wheat germ, green leafy vegetables and dried beans. Also eat foods high in vitamin C, too. This includes fresh raw vegetables, fruit and citrus.
Another way to get iron, and something people do not think very often, is the kitchen with pots of iron. This can add up to 80% more iron to your diet that the food cooked in aluminum. Make sure you remember to take prenatal vitamins, and minerals that your pills contain more folic acid.
You can also take vitamins and iron tablets. Since it is difficult to get enough iron in your diet, you may need to take a supplement, as well as eating foods high in iron. Usually there is enough iron in your prenatal vitamin to prevent anemia, but your health care provider may prescribe an iron supplement if you are anemic. Take it in small amounts, if an upset stomach. It is advisable to take a laxative as well. Do not take your iron supplement with calcium supplements or dairy products.
