Red Wine Benefits

red wine 300x300 Red Wine BenefitsThere has been a lot of interest in the media about the health benefits of red wine. It isn’t the alcohol in the wine that provides a health benefit but the anti-oxidants, the red wine polyphenols, anthrocyanidins and resveratrol.

Resveratrol, in particular, has been demonstrated to be a potent anti-oxidant (about 20-50 times as effectively as vitamin C alone) and act synergistically with vitamin C enhancing the effects of each. Resveratrol has been demonstrated to have an anti-clotting effect that prevents the formation of thrombi or blood clots in the blood vessels. The formation of thrombi that block small blood vessels is believed to be a cause of heart attacks and strokes. Resveratrol has been demonstrated to have anti-cancer effects as well.

What do you do?

Well, you could go into the nearest supermarket and look around for a low fat chicken salad whole meal roll and a small bottle of water. Then you would have to wait in the queue behind the heavy set woman who is offloading her over filled trolley and seems to be ready to pay by credit card.

Or, you could just pop into the burger joint that you passed 10 seconds ago and jump in that fast moving queue.

Most of us at some time or another have gone for option two, after all, it is cheap, easy and you get to eat within a few minutes. There is nothing wrong with doing this once in a while; you have to treat yourself sometimes, (if you can call that a treat), but what about those who eat this type of food on a regular basis?
